At Bluestone Yeast Co. we understand our brewers tread a fine line between a relentless pursuit of excellence and a more prosaic need to reduce costs and boost efficiencies. That’s why we’re happy to announce the release of our new Clean Repitch system, which is designed to provide a faster and more cost-effective way for brewers to harvest, store and then repitch their brewing yeast.
Find out about ordering the Clean Repitch System here
The Clean Repitch system consists of a range of collapsed and sterilised containers and a specially-designed connector to attach the container to your brew tank. This setup creates a sealed and sterilised environment to prevent infections. We’ve designed the system to be quick and easy to use and believe it’ll enable brewers who’re not currently repitching their yeast to take advantage of the many benefits this provides.
Once the yeast has been harvested it can be refrigerated and stored for up to two weeks before repitching into a new brew, just as you would a regular order of Bluestone Liquid Yeast. A valve in the container’s cap allows CO2 to escape while maintaining a sterile environment for the stored yeast.
Another benefit of the Clean Repitch system is that the clear containers allow brewers to visually calculate total yeast volume in the container based on the ratio of compacted yeast to total liquid volume. This calculation is specific to each strain, so please get in touch with us for more advice on calculating your pitch rate when using the Clean Repitch system.
Given its ease of use, the Clean Repitch system is also cost-effective as it cuts down on the amount of time you’ll spend cleaning and sterilising a conventional yeast brink. It’ll also give you peace of mind that the process is completely sterile and no one at your brewery has compromised your yeast with less-than-ideal sanitary practices.
The Clean Repitch containers are available with either a 4, 10 or 20-litre capacity.
Easy six-step process
- Purge the trub from the cone until you have a stream of nice creamy yeast.
- Clean and sanitise your tank’s port/connections and the Clean Repitch connector.
- Attach one end of the connector to your tank and the other to the Clean Repitch container and fill the container with fresh creamy yeast.
- Record relevant yeast strain details such as harvest date and strain type.
- Store for up to a maximum of two weeks in a cold room or fridge between 2°C and 4°C
- Shake the Clean Repitch container and pitch it into your brew.
