Reflecting on October, it feels like time just flew by. Some days, progress feels slow, but looking back, it’s clear we’ve achieved a lot. One of the biggest wins on the production side was finally getting our steam generator installed and the kettles hooked up. After three months of coordinating trades and setting things up, we’re ready to start optimizing our production procedures. This will allow us to increase our production capabilities and make better use of our tanks. Fine-tuning and training are still in progress, but we’re on track to release new yeast strains for homebrewers by Christmas—keep an eye out below for the first few!
Amidst the work, we made time to celebrate Oktoberfest with the Merri Mashers and Tallboy and Moose. The beers brewed using our yeast were absolutely outstanding; everyone was a contender, making it difficult to pick a personal favorite. Ultimately, the people’s choice award went to Marven der Märzenmensch (Sharif Slamaet Märzen 5.6%). It was a fantastic showcase of what our yeast can do, and we’re proud to be a part of it.
Back at the brewery, we tackled a big physical task: setting up some of our larger tanks. With no forklift and limited ceiling height, it was a bit of a puzzle, but we took the safest route and used a gantry, chain, and block to get the tanks upright. Big thanks to the team at Kennards in Port Melbourne for their invaluable support and equipment—they made the whole process seamless.
pro-brew community
We’ve also made strides on the cold side for our professional brewing products. We’re thrilled to announce the initial testing of our new cold side liquid Zinc, a sterilized Zinc solution added directly to the fermenter. Unlike Zinc in the boil, where it often gets sequestered by proteins and trub, this cold side addition means the yeast can fully utilize the Zinc, boosting performance without the typical challenges. This product has been in high demand, and our R&D team has delivered a solution you can trust. If you’d like to test it in your brewery before its official release, reach out to us at info@bluestoneyeast.com.au. Keep watching this space—more innovations coming in the new year!
Due to popular demand, we are extending of T-Shirt offer through to the month of November.
Make sure you get your orders in before stocks run out.
October ended on a festive note. On Halloween, our local community went all out with decorations, and it was amazing to see the neighborhood come alive. Halloween holds a special place in my heart from growing up in Ireland, so I loved walking around with my kids and catching up with neighbors. The next day, we kicked off Movember, and I couldn’t resist stopping by the Terminus Hotel in Fitzroy North, where they were hosting a fundraiser—a shave and a pot of beer for $30. A great cause and a great time (see the photo)!
