We kicked off August with some significant progress in setting up our new space. The chaos and exciting energy of moving is starting to form into a semi orderly layout. We are still finding our feet in the new space and homes for all the equipment. It seemed like a massive space when we first moved in but we are quickly filling the space up. Our electrician has been excellent in getting us powered up with additional power points, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
We have a few major items we want to see up and running in the coming weeks. Namely steam generators and brewing kettles. The other goal is to get our R&D Lab and the qPCR Machine back up and running.
In addition to the lab, we also set up a welcoming tea room for our staff—a small but essential comfort as we settle into the new space.
To celebrate, we picked up some of Kaiju’s Champion Beer from Nat and started including a few cans in each order—a little surprise to brighten our customers’ day.
Our production space is truly starting to come together. It was all hands on deck as we worked to fulfill a surge of orders. It’s been encouraging to hear that our customers are crafting a diverse range of beers, and we’re excited about the pipeline of great new brews coming over the next few months. Keep an eye on the social media of your favorite independent breweries to stay updated on the latest beer drops.
We were also honored to be featured in a great article by Crafty Pint on the 10th anniversary of the Merri Mashers, where we were asked to contribute our thoughts. You can check it out here.
Following on from that article, I also had the pleasure of dropping by Crafty Pint HQ for a podcast with James and Will. It was a lot of fun catching up and sharing some insights into the Bluestone journey, along with a sneak peek at our plans for the coming months. Be sure to check out the episode here.
I was invited to chat with Hendo from Rockstar Brewer on his new podcast to discuss yeast re-pitching, covering the challenges and benefits that come with it. We had a great chat. I learnt a heap from Hendo and we discussed the simplest ways to re-pitch yeast without any new capital spend. It was alot of fun and I hope he will have me back again. View it here.
Homebrew Community
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Merri Masher homebrew meeting at La Sirène Brewery. Check them out here. It was an incredible experience listening to Con talk about all things wild ferment—it’s always inspiring to connect with such passionate brewers in the community!
We are working hard on getting some new products out for the homebrew community in the coming months. But in the meantime let us know what you are planning to brew for Oktoberfest. But don’t worry if you run out of time as you can always drop into your local craft brewery and find out what surprises they have in store for you. I will be aiming to get to the Merri Masher event at Tallboy and Moose. Find out more here.
